They say it's
"The loneliest highway
in America."
U.S. 50, through
eastern Nevada.
It is possible to
make the entire trip
from Fallon to Ely,
without ever seeing
another vehicle.
Lonely?
Not on a motorcycle.
There's far too many
critters to interact with:
bugs to eat - or wear.
Deer, elk, and coyotes to dodge,
badgers to avoid, owls,
and magpies to duck,
snakes to slide by, or sand
to be pitted by.
Not to mention
all the smells:
sage, pine, alkali,
hot and cold air,
or a near miss
from skunk.
It gets even less lonely,
if you stop somewhere,
to pee.
Then the ants, scorpions,
and vinegaroons
all want to visit you.
For those who don't
know vinegaroons -
check them out on
the internet.
You won't want
to meet one!
Almost any road,
in Nevada,
can appear to be
lonely, and desolate -
especially, at night.
If you're one
who likes company,
just stop, and walk
into the sage brush -
then sit down, and
whistle a tune.
You won't be lonely,
long.
If, on the other hand,
you're one who
hates nature, and
fresh air -
you'll love
Las Vegas!
